This class player, a product of Bowling Green State University, who bats and throws right made his debut in the Major League on April 11, 1985 in the Final Game. The eleven years of his active playing career was known for the commitment and dedication this player exhibited throughout, irrespective of the team with which he partnered. His farewell game was on August 14, 1996 in his final game of the Major League.

The Atlanta Braves hired this player as a pitching coach for their team in October 2005, an incident thus replacing Leo Mazzone. A player well known and a mentor and coach matured, and committed McDowell was known to wear Kilts off the field. Many a record is waiting to be bettered by his staff in the coming years under his stewardship in the Atlanta Braves.

How an Empty Box Improved My Swing

When I first started playing golf my swing was amazingat least I thought so. The problems in my game came from the wrong clubs, the wrong golf balls and the wrong teesessentially, all of the equipment in my bag. Once I started replacing my generic equipment with better-designed alternatives, I soon realized that those elements would only get me so farI needed to examine my swing.

When you really think about the game of golf, the physics involved are completely awe-inspiring: a human being whacks a slightly less than two-inch ball several hundred yards across varying terrain, landing that ball inside a hole less than five inches in diameter. Many times in as few as three strokes. How is this possible? Golfing technology has played a large part in shaving strokes off the game, but ultimately the answer is the golfer’s swing.

The perfect golf swing takes advantage of the science mixed up in how a golf ball travels through the air. When the ball takes flight, several things have to happen to create a great shot: the ball has to have spin, trajectory, and speedand all in the proper amounts relative to the shot you are trying to make. In order to control spin, your swing has to deliver the correct club-head angle. In order to convey the proper trajectory, your swing has to address the ball at the proper position. In order to provide speed, your swing has to progress through the proper series of body motions. That’s a lot going on in just one swing!

As a beginner to the game of golf, I couldn’t afford to sink a lot of money into private lessons. As a result, I spent a lot of time working on my swing by trying methods and techniques I read about in popular golf magazines. Most of these techniques utilized well-crafted graphics with a lot of arrows and talk about a “C”-shaped swing. While this was helpful in allowing me to visualize what my swing should look like, it did little to give me a practical application of that information. I spent time videotaping myself, standing in front of mirrorsnot to mention hours watching professionals play on television.

But I still couldn’t find that perfect swing.

The biggest problem I had was that I had an idea of a perfect swing, but I wasn’t addressing the specifics behind what was wrong with mine. Over time, I realized that I didn’t have a terrible swing; I just had a good swing with a tendency to fade. I was satisfied with the distance I was getting (speed), I could generally control the direction of the shot (trajectory), but I had a real problem with my shot sliding to the right on me as I played off the tee.

The most common swing problem in the history of golf is the slicean unintended movement of the ball (for a right-handed player) from left to right while the ball is in the air. As I played, my fade would progress to a slice in direct response to my building frustration. When I found out a slice is common to most golfers, it didn’t make me feel better, it made me even more frustratedI didn’t want to be average, even in my errors!

The best part about having a swing marred by a tendency to slice is that a slice is correctableapparently, golfers who tend to hook (unintentionally moving the ball right to left while in the air) have a much harder time correcting their swings. With a little research, I found hundreds and hundreds of products designed to assist me in straightening out my little problem. But as I said before, I didn’t want to spend the money! Lucky for me, I did have a spare empty box lid from a box of golf balls.

There are many factors involved for creating a slice, but the physics come down to the ball spinning on the wrong axis while in the air. Draw a black line around the exact center of a golf ball, and point that line at a target. If the ball spins forward exactly on a center axis, it will fly in a path directly towards the target without shifting in flight. If the ball spins even slightly off that axisspinning slightly to the right or left, it will curve in the air. This is because the dimples in the ball create a shift in pressure around the ball, similar to the way a pitcher uses the seams to create a curve ball in baseball. The ball may begin traveling in a straight line, but if it is spinning to the right, it will ultimately move in that direction. So, the problem lies in controlling the ball’s spin. And what controls spin? The angle of the club-head when it strikes the ball.

Problem solved! But not quite. The reason my club-head wasn’t striking the ball correctly could be attributed to several possible errorsclosing or opening the clubface, getting ahead or behind my hips in the late stage of my swing, an improper grip on the shaft, etc. But you address these same issues for nearly every other swing problem! I was back to square one! Only this time I was armed with the right information. I knew that my problem was spin.

I reviewed the video tape of my body in motion and I paid particular attention to the details of my swing: grip fine, hips fine, clubface open fine, follow throughnot fine. It seemed I had an abnormality in my follow through. I went back to the articles I had read on correcting swings and I found a great piece of advice that ended up costing me absolutely nothing. The article encouraged me to place the lid from a box of golf balls on end about eighteen inches in front of my stance. Using tees, I secured it to the ground so that it stood up without assistance, pointing in a line towards my target. I addressed the ball with the lid to my left, and as I finished my stroke, I had to avoid hitting the box lid. Voila! No slice!

I now make it a habit of using my little trick before every round to remind myself of the correct follow through for my swing. It’s not a fancy fix, but it works, and it didn’t cost me anything for my troubles. It took a lot of analysis to make it happen, but I’m now a much happier golfer. I still slice from time to time, but at least I now know why, and what I can work on for the future. It turns out my equipment was fine, I just hadn’t really understood the owner’s manual.

Ever since Ian Fleming’s fictional character slammed onto our big and small screens, feats of impossible physical activities have been performed by a whole succession of different actors playing this lead role – whilst at the same time looking cool, calm collected and incredibly sexy.

But – what has this got to do with body building – or more particularly, body sculpting ?

Apart from Sean Connery, who was a body building champion way back, none of the others have been that enamored with body building as such, relying on the suave clothes and expensive hand tailored suits to make the slick macho image.

However, the latest in this long line of actors to play this role is Daniel Craig, pictured in a recent copy of the Daily Express, looking quite a picture with a magnificent, rippling 6-Pack.

But, last October his physique was nowhere like the macho image it is today.

So, how is such a noticeable physical change carried out? To many people, they just associate weight lifting with people determined to spend their lives pumping iron, with no particular end result, except to get more and more muscularly defined.

But, when combined with specific training routines, dietary requirements, and a lot of will-power, weight lifting can be very successful in enabling body sculpting to be carried out.

Many an actor has used this technique when adapting to a new acting role and it would seem that the nouveau James Bond is no exception.

But what sort of routine is required to carry out this physical character change, and how long does it take? To start with, real serious motivation, determination and concentration are a pre-requisite. Most of you who start off down this path try real hard but you just have too much going on already to really devote yourself to this rigorous task. Bodybuilding is a very serious and complex business.

You just can’t pick up the dumbbells, sweat a few pints, do a few lifts and achieve a physique of the style you desire. Hey, if it was that easy you’d be there already. No, it’s much, much more than that. It’s practically a science, and there-in lies the problem. How can you research, develop and carry out an evolving and responsive training , eating and supplements plan, in addition to everything else in your life – Girlfriend, Boyfriend, Wife, Family, Partner, Kids, Dog, Life, Work, Beer.

If you are serious about changing your body shape, losing weight, and defining those muscles so that your body is something to be admired, not hidden, then I would seriously recommend that you have a look at some of the web sites on body building that you can find on the internet. . You need to look for guides to their mental state, and how they cope with a rigorous diet of nine structured meals a day, and the stresses and strains of trying to incorporate an already busy schedule, all at the same time. A lot any body sculptor’s success in completing the challenge has to be down to very clearly defined goals on their part, and a determination to succeed in their objectives.

Encouragement from friends who helped train with them, and of course, the use of a specific day a week to examine and photograph any major body shape changes, will play a great part in the successful completion of their challenge. It is also important that any of the nutrients used during their challenge are also listed, and a range of suppliers identified so that the best source of supply could be identified.

By following part or all of these guidelines, and rigorously sticking to the routines outlined on these sites, it is virtually guaranteed that any fit person who wants to sculpt their body into a thing of classical beauty, whatever the physical material that they started out with, with perseverance and determination – will succeed!.

Horses – Whirlaway

Before the great horse Citation, who was trained by Ben Jones and ridden by jockey Eddie Arcaro to victory for the 1948 triple crown, there was another horse that they had the distinction of also taking to triple crown glory, one of the most wild horses in all of racing history. His name, Whirlaway.

There is no question about it, Whirlaway was a psychopath as far as horses went. He was quite prone to some wild adventurous trips around a race track. He was actually considered a mentally ill horse, however that is actually determined. He was a danger to himself and those around him. But there was no doubt in Ben Jones’ mind that this horse was worth training. In his 3 and 4 year old seasons he ran 42 races, winning 25 of them and finishing second 13 times. Truly amazing for a horse that old. Whirlaway became the first of 8 Kentucky Derby winners and the first of 2 triple crown winners for Calumet Farm.

Whirlaway was the son of Blenheim II. In his 2 year old season he did show some signs of brilliance. He won seven starts which included four stakes races. His early record was actually much better than any other previous triple crown winner. All of them combined only won six races by the age of two. But Whirlaway also lost 9 times that year and began to show signs of very erratic behavior. Many times he would run a race and take his jockey to the outside rail before coming back inside and moving in for the kill. He was a very difficult horse to control because of his mental problems.

At the start of his second year of racing, Whirlaway was still showing signs of extremely erratic behavior and it was feared that he would never be ready for the really big races. He lost his first two races that year and fans were left wondering if he would ever be the great horse that Calumet Farm said he would be.

Well, the fans and the rest of the racing world didn’t have to wait long. On May 3, 1941, Whirlaway ran in the Kentucky Derby. Jones had made some modifications to Whirlaway’s blinker so that he could see a little better on the left side but not on the right. He also put Eddie Arcaro on Whirlaway, replacing his old jockey Wendall Eads. Arcaro had ridden a previous Kentucky Derby winner of Jones’. When the race started, Whirlaway did his usual bit of staying at the back of the pack. But with just a quarter mile left, Whirlaway took off and left the others in the dust, winning by 8 lengths.

The Preakness was no different. At one point, Whirlaway was trailing by 9 lengths and it appeared that he was out of the race. But again, he came on late and ended up winning the Preakness by 5 1/2 lengths.

Finally, a month later at the Belmont Stakes, Whirlaway notched up his place in racing history. This time he came out strong, building a 7 length lead. Even though he started to tire at the end he still hung on for a 2 1/2 length victory.

Sadly, after he retired and was sold to breed, he died just 10 minutes after being taken to a mare.

But in using these kind of bags you do sacrifice storage space.

Regardless of which bag you choose you want to be sure to protect your golf equipment while it is in the bag. This is best done by buying a good set of clubhead protectors to keep your clubs from damaging each other as they move around in the bag. Another good suggestion for protection of your clubs in the golf bag is having plastic shaft covers to keep your shafts from clanging against each other as the bag is transported.

So you want to make your money online now huh? Great. There are plenty of ways to do it. AutoSurfs, MLMs, form-filling/surveys, Affiliate Marketing, HYIP’s and the good old fashioned way: Your own product on your own website.

I’ll explore each of these ways in the course of this series. So if they sound like gobledy gook to you now, fear not. Its estimated that every day over 250,000 people make the decision to start earning money at home on the Internet. That’s a lot of people who don’t have a clue what these terms mean either. Everyone’s got to start somewhere.

For most people, a reasonable course of action when choosing an online business, is to bring up their favourite search engine (if they’ve even got one yet) and type the words “work from home”. The number of sites that come up when you enter such a term on Google alone is 1.9 Billion. Compare this with “find a job” (425 million) or “new career” (458 million) and you get an idea of where Internet Marketers are directing their efforts.

OK. So the good news is, if there’s plenty of supply you’ve got plenty of choice. But how do you go about choosing the one thats best for you? How do you know which one of those 1.9 billion work from home ideas gives you the best chance of success? Lets face it, you could live until you’re five hundred and you still wouldn’t have read them all.

And perhaps you’ve got your own idea, perhaps you’ve used The Internet enough to have identified a niche area, a business idea you want to exploit. Either way, you’re entering new waters and its best to be prepared. It is important to be instinctive because once you’ve embarked on your online career, it will be your instinct that will direct you. Don’t take time theorising about what you think the right or wrong answer should be, just give the true answer. That’s the only way you’ll get a useful result.

These four questions should be answered in order with a score between 1 (minimum) and 5 (maximum). No zeros. Write your answers down and keep them safe.

1. How computer literate am I? (Not at all – 1. Exceedingly – 5) 2. How is my self-discipline? (Terrible – 1. Excellent – 5) 3. How positive is my outlook on life? (Miserable – 1. Excellent – 5) 4. How much can I afford to fail? (I can’t – 1. It really doesn’t matter – 5)

The Cure for a Fat Shot

This problem may be easier to fix than you think. You may not realize it, but your back shoulder may be dipping towards the ground. This move forces the club to hit the ground too early. Most of the time it happens when you are really trying to get into the ball. Imagine…You’re 200 yards out and you’ve chosen to hit the 4 iron. When you’ve got it in your head that you have to hit the ball hard to get it there, it’s natural tendency to start your downswing with the hips in an effort to “really get into the ball”. That may work in baseball, but not in golf.

I’d like to take you through what happens if you make that move in golf. First, get in the your setup position, now take your backswing and hold it at the top. Now move only your hips horizontally towards the target, and notice the way it forces your back shoulder to “dip”. If you’ve made that “dip” with your back shoulder, it’s over. You are going to hit behind the ball 90% of the time, and if you do make good contact, you’ll probably end up with a killer slice. Lateral movement is no good for the golf swing.

To avoid this problem, and to simplify your golf swing, keep the lower body out of the equation. If you really want to get into the ball, start your downswing with your arms. It’s tough to do if you have a habit formed, but once you get used to it, you won’t be hitting the ball fat anymore. Most golfers over-emphasize the weight shift. If you keep your hips still, the weight shift will still occur, but it will happen naturally.

Get to the top, keeping your leading arm as straight as possible. Now start down at the ball with your leading arm fully extended. Your head hasn’t moved laterally, and your hips haven’t moved laterally. Now to take this to the next step, imagine the entire golf swing, through impact, occurring underneath the upper body.

Concentrate on keeping your front shoulder strong and “down” on the ball. This will enable you to keep your swing on the correct plane, and it will help your hands to keep up with your body. Don’t let that shoulder come up and away from the target before impact as that will cause your body to get ahead of your hands leading to fat shots and slices.
