Buying a Van? Don’t Forget Your Van Insurance

Comments Off

One of the first things to consider when buying a vehicle is if it is new or used and is it within your budget. Don’t forget that as well as buying a van you still need to pay for van insurance. Setting a budget is usually based on your current financial circumstances and what you wish to use the vehicle for. For example if it is for work or for family purposes may have an affect on the amount you are willing to pay. It is also important that once you have set a budget that performs the following checks in order to get the best deal.

When buying a new van, the price is not defined by a RRP (recommended retail price) instead the cost will be dependant on wear and tear, number of miles on the clock, whether it has been used for business or private use (this will usually have a big effect on the previous two aspects). Another aspect you should study is what similar models are selling for, both new and used as this will give you a better indication of whether or not you are getting a good deal. Search online and in used car magazines to get a better idea of what you expect to pay.

Don’t rush in and buy the first thing you see, look around first and even if you do go back to the first van you seen at least you’ve done your research. The best way to see how the van performs is to take it out on a test drive. This will enable you to see how it handles and whether it is functioning properly. You can test the wear and tear on stuff like the brakes (perform an emergency stop to see how well they work, if the brakes grind it could mean the brake pads are pretty worn), how smooth the gears are, by slowly releasing the clutch you can see if they are bearing. Also check the tyres to see if they are a legal level and how much they have been worn. Finally check the engine, if you are not to sure who to look for take it to a garage in order to get a professional look as this is a very important aspect
