So You’re Looking for Web Content Management Strategy…

Comments Off

These days many companies need an efficient means of utilizing the internet and online information, and web site content management systems – WCM – can meet this demand. Cutting edge WCM systems are compatible with most other computer programs, thus ensuring there won’t be any loss in the work rate. To effectively work with a WCM you should guarantee that it can meet the following points.

Before doing anything, companies would be advised to be aware of and understand the differences between these and unintegrated hosted WCM programs. Initially the info is received by the global CMS which then starts categorizing it, ensuring that it matches to predetermined specifications. Its next step is to organize and serve the content for on-site as well as off-site personnel. The WCM work flow must be regular and universal. Aside from being able to formulate and process information, ideally you should also be able to to edit and reprocess it depending on your needs. Try to picture the process as being similar to the comments box on a web site on which you have moderator access. It is obvious but the info needs to be presented to the employee in a format in which they can easily process it. Look out for software incompatibility relating to special configurations and proprietary software. It should be remembered, however, that your WCM is required to cover much more than simply process only these functions.

Instead, the WCM should handle the information and translate it into a language that can be understood by internet browsers. This means using specialized programming languages such as PHP, XML, HTML as well as others, making that data readable implementing the proper means. Sure, it’s an obvious point to make, but never forget protection for your system. It can include maintaining the security of the relevant information and making it accessible only to staff members as well as authorized external surfers.

The global CMS combines collection and end direction to enhance the way we handle information and data. Because everything is integrated, there is a lowered risk of security problems, working with streams of information, errors in the composition, and more time assignable to more important matters.

Domain Registration and Web Site Hosting — Fiction and Truth

The initial step in building a Web site is deciding on the most suitable domain and employing the best suited Web registration for your particular market. But, it’s generally wise not to decide on anything without some prior help. When you are wrestling to explore the best domain hosting you will probably realize that checking out the provider with the help of client reviews is the best step.

When you are checking domain hosting reviews, how do you know what is helpful information and what isn’t? As with all good business decisions, you should discover what features are essential for you. Numerous businesses have their Web pages hosted by the same company they have chosen to register their domain. Do bear in mind, however, that even after your Web site was launched, issues like support are very likely to become extremely important.

Never depend on feedback which solely appears on the hosting provider’s Web site. It is crucial to get an impartial assessment before making a choice. You need to research as broad a variety of reviews as possible paying attention to what all the customers have to say. Do you find some of the complaints over and over again? Can you determine the company’s strong points from the text? Is the overall feedback good or bad?

Of course, you’ll come across both positive and negative comments. It’s always wise to read all the customer feedback with an open mind and weigh them all. Without a doubt, the significance of cost should not be overlooked, but it’s absolutely crucial to get the best bang for your buck. Below are a few questions to address when trying to find the most appropriate hosting for your site.

To learn more, we suggest you review our reliable website for domain review info!

Does the company you are thinking of feature uninterrupted customer service with a free number, and can you discover from the review Web site whether or not they have an acceptable turn around time? Just how much bandwidth would your rating plan be good for? Some providers offer limitless domain hosting and bandwidth as part of a bundle, besides all kinds of other rewards. How is the payment plan set up? Are all payments automatic, or could you pay yearly? What level of technical support is offered in the event of a server failure? These answers could make or break your Web site. Only you will choose the right hosting for the needs of your business, even so, before you settle for any company, do use caution, read the reviews. After all, studying proper hosting reviews is generally an essential strategy that can help you save time and money.

FIve Questions To Ask Before Attending A Computer Tech School

Comments Off

As with any field, there are good technical training schools, and bad ones. When you sign up with one of these schools, you’ve made a significant investment in time and money. You deserve to know everything about the school and your job prospects after leaving that school before you put down your hard-earned money. The problem is, sometimes it’s hard to know the right questions to ask.

The point of this article is not to bash technical training schools. That’s how I got my start in IT eight years ago, and today I’m a CCIE and own my own Cisco training company and my own consulting firm.

Before I ever put down the first dime, though, I asked some tough questions. So should you.

What are my true job prospects and legitimate salary levels after I graduate from your school?

We’ve all heard the ads on the radio… “Did you know the average salary of an MCSE is $80,000?” “Are you worth $65,000 a year? If not, call us!”

I’m an optimist, and I often tell people that no field rewards individual achievement and drive like IT does. Having said that, none of us start at the top, and darn few of us start at that kind of salary.

I’m sure that there are some people who broke in at $80,000, but I haven’t met very many of them. Be very wary of technical schools that use the famous/infamous MCSE Salary Survey as a marketing tool. They tend to represent those salaries as starting salaries.

Ask your technical school what the average starting salary of their graduates is. And keep in mind that salary is not the most important factor to consider when looking for your first job in IT it’s the experience you’ll be able to put on your resume later on that you should weigh heavily at this point.

In short, be very careful about schools that brag about starting salaries. It’s not where you start, it’s where you end up.

How up-to-date are the courses you’re offering?

Make sure the school you’re going to attend has made efforts to keep their courses relevant. Ask what changes have been made to their curriculum in the last three years. No field changes faster than IT. If the answer to that question is “none”, look somewhere else.

I want to work in IT security. Have you placed anyone in this field lately? If so, can I talk to them?

Technical schools are jumping on the security bandwagon, with a couple of schools running ads about training you to work in Homeland Security. If that’s your goal, that’s great, but keep in mind that you have to get a security clearance for any job like that.

And how do you get a security clearance? You have to be sponsored.

And who will sponsor you? Your employer.

Can you get employed in a Homeland Security job without having the clearance in the first place?

Hmmm. Probably not.

Hello, Catch-22.

Again, I’m certainly not saying you can’t eventually get an IT security job if that’s where you want to go, you can eventually get there. The key word there is “eventually”. Ask the school you’re thinking of attending whether they’ve actually been able to place graduates in such jobs. Ask to talk to them. If the school’s managed to do so, they’ll be glad to put you in touch with such graduates.

What textbooks does your school use?

Some technical school chains use only books that someone in their organization wrote. I’ve heard some of their own teachers complain about the quality of these books. The technical school I attended used off-the-shelf books, and the quality was very good.

If you’re looking into entering the IT field, you probably know someone who’s already in it. Use that resource for everything it’s worth. Ask that person what they think about the books, or for that matter, what the local reputation of the school is. IT is a small world, if the school has a good or bad reputation, most of the IT personnel in your city or town probably know about it.

The fifth question is a question to ask of HR representatives. Every technical school lists companies where they’ve placed their graduates on their promotional material. Pick up the phone, call these companies, and ask to speak to someone in HR. Ask that person about the reputation of the school. Five to eight phone calls will give you a good picture of where the school stands with local employers.

Making the decision to attend a technical school can be the best decision you’ve ever made it certainly was for me. Make sure to ask the right questions before writing a check or taking a loan to attend the answers to those questions will indicate to you whether this school is truly the school that can help you achieve your dreams.

Broadband as Important as Water and Electricity

Comments Off

A whopping 73 percent of internet users in the UK consider high-speed broadband to be as important as water or electricity. Although, it would have not been a surprise if some people said that for them broadband was now an essential utility, the percentage of people holding this view is certainly quite impressive.

However, Chris Stening, Managing Director of broadband provider Easynet Connect, which mainly caters to business users, says that there is nothing new about this trend. He says that business users in the country have held such a belief for a long time, and the latest survey only shows that the home users are catching up.

He pointed out that in May last year Easynet Connect found 71 percent of Small and Medium Enterprises agreeing that running their business for more than even a day without the internet would be impossible. Businesses and individual users are both relying on latest applications that the internet is facilitating, thus it is only on expected lines that so many users rate broadband so high in terms of utility.

Stening believes that the reliance on the internet will keep increasing for a long time. We already perform a significant number of our activities online now, and many of these activities like emails and online banking are critical for most of us. Laptop Computers

Sitting at a desk all of the time can become dull. It is more fun to work on stuff with a laptop instead of a computer that is stationary on a desk. With the help of wireless networks you can take your laptop all over the place and access the internet and use all of the cool features on the laptop.

As far as the type of laptop to use, some are big, some are small, and they all have a different build. A PC is very popular because it is so easy to use; the software is compatible and works in great relations with the laptop computer.

Laptops can go with you to the coffee shop, to your bedroom, and anywhere else. Even though cellular phones are able to function at much higher levels than before, the laptop should be the way to go for many years to come. You can do pretty much anything that you want with your laptop computer. Access the internet and read your favorite fun BLOG or watch the coolest video, you can even play video games with someone half way across the world. Laptops make everything more convenient and less constrictive. Next time you find yourself sitting at the desk and want to get away, pick up your laptop computer and re-locate to a more fun and inviting area.

What Causes the Seasons?

Comments Off

The seasons are caused by a change in the length of daylight hours. As the seasons progress, the days get shorter or longer and noon sun changes its altitude in the sky. In summer the sun is high above the horizon as it makes its way across the sky. As winter approaches, the noon sun is lower in the sky and sunsets occur earlier each evening.

The seasonal variation in the angle of the sun affects the amount of solar radiation the earth receives. When the sun is overhead, its rays pass through a thickness of one atmosphere. But when the rays enter at an angle of 30 degrees, they pass through a thickness of two atmospheres and at 5 degrees they pass through the equivalent of eleven atmospheres! The longer the path, the more change for scattering, absorption and reflection, which rob the sun’s rays for their intensity.

The annual changes in the sun’s angle and the length of the day are created by the earth’s angle of orientation toward the sun. The earth’s axis is not perpendicular to the plane of its orbit around the sun. It is tilted 23 degrees from the perpendicular. Remember your globes? They are tilted on an angle and that angle approximates the earth’s attitude toward the sun. The tilt is called the inclination of the axis, but that inclination wobbles a little. Right now the earth’s axis is pointed at the North Star, Polaris. In a few thousand years it will be pointed at Vega, which will be the new North Star. That’s because of that wobble and that wobble can affect the earth’s orientation toward the sun and, as a result, its climate.

On the day of the summer solstice (June Cool cycle fault), the north pole is inclined 23 degrees toward the sun. This is the beginning of summer in the northern hemisphere and the longest day of the year. In the southern hemisphere it’s just the opposite – the beginning of winter and the shortest day of the year. Six months later on the day of the winter solstice (in the northern hemisphere), the north pole is inclined 23 degrees away from the sun. This is the beginning of winter, the shortest day of the year, the day in which the people in the northern hemisphere receive the least light and energy from the sun. The summer and winter solstices occur on opposite days in the southern hemisphere.

The earth moves around the sun, but its orbit isn’t exactly circular. Rather than a perfect circle, sometimes its orbit is oblong. This is called eccentricity of orbit and changes the distance from the earth to the sun at different times of the year. Currently the earth is closest to the sun in January and furthest away in July.

However, we are in a period of low eccentricity – the earth’s orbit around the sun is rounder – so the difference in the distance to the sun between January and July is slight, merely 3 percent. That variance doesn’t have much effect on the amount of the sun’s energy the earth receives. But when the eccentricity of the orbit is high, the difference can be as much as 20 percent and can have a pronounced affect on the atmosphere.

Equipment for the Amateur Astronomer – Part 1

Comments Off

Binoculars and telescopes and other astronomy equipment and accessories are the meat and potatoes of amateur astronomy. A good pair of binoculars is what introduced me to the pleasures of stargazing many moons ago and only after a couple of years scanning the skies did I graduate to a telescope. That was one of the department store 60mm telescopes we’re all warned about, but my folks didn’t know any better, and to a 12-year old kid, it opened up the universe.

Telescopes
While cheap (in every sense of the word) telescopes are still to be found, recent years have seen the introduction of small but very affordable telescopes from manufacturers such as Meade and Celestron and, despite their small size, these telescopes have excellent optics that far outperform the cheap optics in my old 60mm scope from so long ago.

Many of these small telescopes now come with GOTO features that allow you to select an object to view from an attached handset and the telescope will automatically slew to that feature in the sky. What the ads tend to forget to mention is that in order to use this facility, the telescope must be correctly set up and aligned beforehand. Many scopes, unfortunately, lie gathering dust in corners and wardrobes because their owners couldn’t figure out how to use the thing. It’s not their fault – better, and simpler, instructions should be supplied with the telescopes. But for those who can work with such an instrument, a wealth of celestial objects are available for viewing that would be quite difficult to find otherwise.

Some old hands in astronomy societies have welcomed the new technology openly, others have decried its introduction as it stops newcomers from learning their way around the skies using a technique called star hopping. In some ways, they see that there must be a little pain in finding an object before you can have the pleasure of viewing it. I suppose it’s a bit like the difference between being bussed to Machu Pichu or going on a five-hour hike up the mountain to see it. Which would you choose? If the hike is your cup-of-tea, then star-hopping is for you.

Personally, I think the introduction of GOTO mounts has been a very positive development and has made the hidden beauty of the night sky accessible to many more people. If you’ve bought a small telescope with an integrated GOTO mount yourself, but are unsure of how to use it or the best objects to view, go along to your local astronomy society or club and ask their help. They’ll be only too willing to lend a helping hand.

On the other hand, if you do want to develop a knowledge of the night sky, then a simple Dobsonian telescope is a good place to start. These 6-inch and larger reflecting telescopes come on simple mounts that allow you to pivot the telescope left and right and up and down so you can easily point it anywhere in the sky.

The Choosing a Telescope article by fellow amateur astronomer Kevin Berwick discusses the different types of telescope that are available and provides sage advice on what might best suits your needs.

Eyepieces
You should have a selection of eyepieces to use with your telescope to allow close-up views or wide-field views. Planets require small diameter eyepieces to see surface detail whereas larger subjects, like the Pleiades and other large star clusters require wide-field views. Pretty much any eyepiece can be used to get a good view of the Moon or close-up views of it.

Eyepieces range from about 3mm to 40mm (i.e. the glass in them, not the diameter of the eyepiece itself!) and come in three fittings: 0.965″, 1.25″ and 2″ (for high-end telescopes). The 0.965″ fitting is seldom used these days but older telescopes used eyepieces of this size. There are also different types of eyepiece: Plossl, Erfle, Kellner, Orthoscopic, wide-angle, etc. The magnification an eyepiece provides depends on the focal length of your telescope – divide the telescope focal length by the eyepiece size to get the magnification. A typical refractor (uses lenses rather than a mirror) has a focal length of about 900mm. A 26mm eyepiece would provide a magnification of 34x with this scope. Used with a telescope with a 2000mm focal length, the magnification is 77x.

There’s another feature of eyepieces called the Field of View. Basically, this is how big an area of sky is seen through the eyepiece. The bigger the field of view, the more can be seen. How much of the sky is seen depends on the eyepiece diameter and the focal length of the telescope. Wide-angle eyepieces (82 degrees field of view, for example) tend to be quite expensive. Average eyepieces, such as Plossls, have about a 50 degree field of view. Wide-angle eyepieces can almost give the sense of “being out there”.

Binoculars
While this discussion has centered mostly on telescopes, binoculars have a role to play in astronomy as well. A quality pair of binoculars costs less than a telescope and is a good entry point for someone familiarising themselves with the sky. They don’t offer the same magnifications as a telescope (but magnification isn’t everything) but they do show a much wider field of view which makes it easier to navigate across the sky. Because of this wider field of view, you also get to see the ‘big’ picture. And, because you’re using both eyes, there’s less eyestrain. You can get binocular viewers for telescopes and those who use them (even though they cost a few hundred dollars and you need two of every eyepiece) swear by them (rather than at them!). A typical set of binoculars will be 10×50s (front lenses 50mm across, with a x10 magnification). More powerful models are available – 20×60s are available from $150 upwards and you can get 20×80s for as little as $215. These binoculars are quite heavy and you can tire easily pointing them skyward for any length of time. Also, because of their higher magnification, any shake in your hands will also be magnified and stars will dart around in the view. For long-duration viewing, you’d be advised to get a tripod and a binocular tripod adapter which lets you securely mount the binoculars on it.

Binoculars are also great for looking at large scale celestial objects such as comets. Looking at the Moon through 20x binoculars brings it close enough to see topography but also, you’ll see it in three dimensions, something lacking when looking through the eyepiece at a telescope. You can whip out a pair of binoculars much more quickly than setting up a telescope so if you have very changeable weather where you live, they might be a better option for sky viewing. Of course, you can throw a pair of binoculars into your luggage very easily and view the sky from your holiday destination with ease.

Paternity Dna Testing

Comments Off

Paternity DNA testing is a reliable way to determine the true paternal identity of a child, and generally provides 99.9% accurate results. Paternal DNA testing is legally binding and can be used to solve legal issues surrounding the true birth parents of a child, such as alimony, visitation, etc.

The DNA profile of a person possesses two genetic types, also known as alleles, inherited from each parent. By comparing the DNA profiles of the mother and the child, the genetic type inherited form its mother is identified, which leaves the other half being inherited from the child’s biological father. The profile of the child and the father is then examined to determine whether the DNA profile matches the paternal alleles in the child.

Although paternity DNA testing is quite accurate, it is never possible to prove 100% that a man is definitely the biological father of a child, as it might be remotely possible that another man may have the same DNA profiling as that of the child. Most paternity DNA testing requires utmost security and confidentiality. One should also ensure that all the specimens collected for analysis should be collected according to the regulations, which require photo identification of all people providing blood samples, specifications for labeling and sealing of sample containers, and maintaining confidentiality of the case details, including names, addresses and results. One should also ensure that the DNA testing centers store all samples and case files in a secure area with tightly controlled access.

The results for the DNA tests are usually issued within five working days of receipt of all specimens by mail to the mother and the alleged father or the legal representative. Although most DNA paternity tests are admissible in most courts of law, it is recommended that you check your state and local governments for regulations that may govern this service.
