Get this! Some Tip-Offs Touching on Botulinum Injections Sydney
Comments Off
Botulinum therapy (abbreviated to BoTox) is now established amongst Sydney’s stylish set in fact it is becoming an essential part of grooming for people in the city.
Nevertheless I am often startled by the rumours surrounding the treatment.
To follow are a selection of the more popular mistakes that I come across all the time in Star Cosmetic Medicine, where I am employed as a physician.
Mistake no. 1: I might not be able to use my facial muscles normally!
There are 60 or so muscles beneath the skin of your face. The excessive use of these muscles may cause wrinkle formation. When an excess of BoTox is used facial expression can sometimes become over relaxed. The amount used by virtually all doctors will result in you seeming well rested, yet you will still look every bit as expressive.
Therefore by using small amounts of the preparation in exactly the right spot facial expression is maintained whilst the lines are minimised.
Mistake no. 2: Botulinum is a toxic substance!
There is a little truth in this. Its pharmaceutical term is Botulinum Toxin Type A. Too large a dose can result in loss of muscle tone or may even make one very ill.
But to help us see the bigger picture – an old chemist’s saying states that ‘everything is poisonous – it all depends on the dose’. All medicinal drugs may make you sick in large dosages. Even water can be a poison if enough is taken.
Mistake no. 3: Wrinkle injections will be painful!
In our clinic Star Cosmetic Medicine the physician will use needles finer than a human hair. Quite a few patients have said that the treatments are not as painful as a mosquito bite. It is certainly not as traumatic as a procedure like a blood test.
Mistake no. 4: I might lose sensation in my face!
False. BoTox targets the junction between the nerve and the facial muscle, and not on the nerves of sensation. Only the ability to relax muscles is impacted by BoTox.
Mistake no. 5. You cannot stop having BoTox otherwise you will get worse fine lines and wrinkles than ever!
Again this is simply false.

You can expect the treatment to be effective for upwards of three months. Further injections tend to last longer. Gradually as muscle strength builds up again the lines will reappear bit by bit. But they will certainly be no more pronounced than when you began.
In fact any lines should be be less evident than if you hadn’t had BoTox injections – even when you don’t repeat the treatment. This is obviously so due to the fact your skin has had a ‘wrinkle holiday’ whilst the treatment was active.
